Birds and Brews
Big Barn Brewing Company
Join your Spokane Audubon Society leaders Shenandoah Marr, Madonna Luers, Shaina French and others for a fun and unique birding/fund-raising event on Thursday, August 22 from 5-8 pm at Big Barn Brewing Company located on Greenbluff at 16004 N. Applewood Ln., Mead, WA. This event is perfect for all levels of birders, especially beginners, including families with kids.
We’ll gather at the old small taphouse to form groups with trip leaders for a short (no more than an hour) nature walk around the hop fields and orchards, keeping eyes and ears open for local birds found in our agricultural areas such as Killdeer, California quail, bluebirds, blackbirds, catbirds, flycatchers, red-tailed hawks and more (or less, if it’s hot!). By 6:15, we’ll gather at the taphouse to enjoy some no-host cold beverages (including non-alcoholic choices). From about 7- 8 pm, you’ll have a chance to win prizes and test your birding knowledge with fun rounds of Birding Trivia.
Big Barn is generously donating $1 per every pint sold during this event to our Save-A-Bird Team to help cover costs of their work rescuing injured and orphaned birds.
All you need to bring is your curiosity, good walking shoes, comfortable clothing, cash or cards for beverages (beer or non-alcoholic options), your own food if desired for after the walk, and your sharp wits for the birding trivia competition! Some binoculars will be available for use, but feel free to bring your own.
Please register by Tuesday, August 20th, so we can provide a headcount to Big Barn who is generously accommodating us (maximum 40 participants).
