Leader: Alan McCoy
Trip Description: This half-day trip is geared toward all levels of birders. It is an easy 5-mile hike around the Cheney Wetlands. This is typical open ponderosa pine with serviceberry and some other deciduous trees and shrubs. There is plenty of water for ducks and marsh for wrens and rails.
Come prepared for: Cooler weather so wear layers, bring something to snack on, and water to drink. Bring binoculars (and a camera and scope if you have them). Alan will bring a scope.
Contact Alan (509) 999-9512 at ahm2352@gmail.com to register for the trip.
Register: no later than October 13th.
Where and When to Meet: We will meet at the trailhead at 7:30 am. The trailhead is located about ½ to ¾ mile from the stoplight in downtown Cheney on Cheney-Spangle Rd. Park in the lot (there is a bathroom) provided for the Columbia Plateau Trail. Bring your Discovery Pass.
Target Species: Waterfowl will be in bright, fresh plumage. Raptors, nuthatches, chickadees, yellow-rumped warblers, western bluebirds and whatever else is there. There is always an opportunity for a vagrant or other oddity migrating through.
