August 23, Wednesday, “Birds and Brews”
Location: Big Barn Brewing Company on Greenbluff in north Spokane County (16004 N. Applewood Lane, Mead)
Meet-up Time: 5:30 p.m.
Birder Level: Everyone, especially beginners, and including families with kids
Description: This is a new kind of after-work nature walk of up to a mile in a rural area looking for and talking about birds for about an hour. No guarantees of seeing a lot if it’s hot, but around 7 p.m. we’ll finish our walk and gather on the brewery picnic grounds for more birding, camaraderie, and conversation over no-host cold beverages (including non-alcoholic choices) up until 8 p.m. when brewery closes.
Target species: California quail, killdeer, juncos, chickadees, flycatchers, red-tailed hawks, wild turkeys, and more (or much less if it’s hot!)
What to bring: Curiosity, good walking shoes and attire, food if desired for post-walk session. Binoculars will be available for use, but bring your own if you have some.
Leaders: Madonna Luers, Wanda Peters, Shenandoah Marr
Registration: So we have a headcount for the brewery to save space for us, please register by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 22, by texting 509-993-2085 or e-mailing madwoodmel@centurylink.net.
